The woods, that evening, was striped with shadows and light as I walked toward the field where my friend agreed to meet me. I had been looking for morel mushrooms, avoiding the poison ivy, as I swept the forest floor with my eyes and a long stick. The light was no longer conducive to mushrooming, so I made my way toward the radiant star shape and exited my favorite stand of trees in time to see a doe and a fawn leaping through the corn.
