Little Bit Wild

During my visit to the western part of Wisconsin last week I came across these little roses. They were coral and had only about ten petals each. They were nestled in among some small violet flowers that looked pretty decent with the coral. The gardener did a nice job of planning.

This is not my usual kind of rose, but neither was the night I began painting her.  I will paint more "civilized" roses in the near future, unless I find another cutie pie wild rose.

Coral Rose

I had photographed all of the woman's white roses when she invited me to come to her backyard to see her pride and joy. Sprawled against the backdrop of her painted stucco house grew a bush covered with outrageously beautiful coral roses. I shot one picture and my battery died. This was it. The only one I was able to document.  Sadly, she has since moved and I've not been invited through the gate to see if she took the coral rosebush with her.

"That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet." So saith Romeo to Juliette. But what if it were a chocolate rose? Would it smell as sweet—or sweeter?

I spent most of the day trying to combine two of my favorite subjects—a rose and chocolate.  Alas, I failed miserably. I wiped off the chalky abomination and made this one instead. Thorns and all!

I shall try again!
